DR. MARIA E. CASTILLEJOS
Dr. Castillejos opened her first Ophthalmology practice San Diego Surgeons Medical Group in 1983, subsequently co-founded Castillejos Eye Institute Medical Group in 1997, which specializes in eye diseases and surgery.
Dr. Castillejos specializes in Retina and Vitreous diseases and surgery, is the Medical Director of IDOC, she has been featured in specialty journals and has been a speaker in National and International Meetings. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
Dr. Castillejos is an International physician who is Board Certified in two countries by the American Board of Ophthalmology as well as the Consejo Mexicano de Oftalmologia.
She graduated from medical school with Magnum Cum Laude and second in her class at National University of Mexico City. Dr. Castillejos completed her medical residency at downstate University,New York and was awarded Intern of the year. Later she completed Chief Resident in 1978. Dr. Castillejos completed Retina and Vitreo Fellowship at Harvard University, under renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Charles Schepens.
Dr. Maria E. Castillejos is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmologist, Schepen’s Alumni and Fellow of the Consejo Mexicano de Oftalmologia.
She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, San Diego County Ophthalmological Society, California medical Association and the American Medical Association, Sociedad Mexicana de Oftalmologia and Colegio de Oftalmologia de Baja California, International Schepens Society and Mass Eye and Ear Society.
Dr. Castillejos has been involved in ophthalmic research, particularly in the field of Vitreous Hemorrhage, Vitrase Study.
